Accelerating the shift to net zero

The move to zero-emission vehicles is essential for slowing climate change

Tackling climate change through rapid EV adoption

To cut emissions from cars globally, zero-emission vehicles must outcompete inexpensive gas and diesel cars.

The Ingear 2-speed transmission technology makes EVs more affordable and closes the cost gap to accelerate clean mobility adoption.

Positive Change
Driven by EV Adoption

Personal transportation is one of the largest sources of GHG emissions, and accounts for 25–30% of the global total. By enabling a mass consumer shift to clean passenger vehicles we can rapidly eliminate one of climate change’s biggest offenders.

EV Adoption
Driven by Affordability

More consumers will choose EVs when they are more affordable, but still offer great performance and comparable range. Ingear enables more efficient powertrains that dramatically reduce puchase and operating costs for the next generation of EVs.

Ingear. The world’s most efficient 2-speed transmission for EVs.

UNPRECEDENTED EFFICIENCY

The Ingear 2-speed transmission is as mechanically efficient as a simple, single-speed powertrain.

USES LESS ENERGY

An Ingear-enabled EV has both city and highway gearing that uses 7–15% less energy than a conventional EV to travel a given distance.

 Doing More With Less

$1500

LESS COST

Better efficiency allows for less battery and motor resulting in an EV that is $1,500 less expensive to produce, and cheaper to purchase and operate. In a high-volume Class B/C drivetrain, Ingear costs less than $150, but saves more than $1,650 in battery, motor, inverter and other costs.

7–15%

GREATER RANGE

Ingear-enabled EVs can offer greater distances between charges. There is less electricity needed there is the added efficiency of moving a lighter vehicle with less battery weight.

15%+

BETTER PERFORMANCE

Single-speed transmissions are a compromise between efficiency and performance. With the same efficiency as a single-speed, an Ingear powertrain can now maximize for both city and highway use. Even better, acceleration can be improved by up to 15%.

Ingear makes green even greener

SMALLER FOOTPRINT

An Ingear-enabled car requires less battery and can use a smaller, simpler motor. This reduces upstream demand for mining rare earths and expensive materials.

GRID FRIENDLY

Electrifying mobility will put major demands on our power grids. Using less energy to get from A to B ultimately lowers the amount of electricity that needs to be produced and distributed.

How the Ingear Works

Most EVs have two reduction gears between the motor and the wheels. The Ingear replaces the second reduction gear with a continuous chain drive and a morphing sprocket. To shift, an actuator directs bigger (or smaller) sprocket segments into place during a single revolution of the wheels. Power flows continuously between the motor and wheels, even during a shift.

By enabling the electric motor and transmission to operate more efficiently, more of the battery’s power is used to move the car. See detailed efficiency analysis here
